One of my friends did some napkin math and calculated that it’s not worthwhile to pick a penny off the ground. He concluded that we should deprecate pennies and price goods in 5 cent increments.
That’s like saying “taking 1 painkiller doesn’t suppress my chronic pain anymore, so I’m upping the dose to 5.”
You can’t buy anything for a penny these days—true. But that’s not the problem. The problem is that you used to be able to buy things for a penny, and now you can’t.
How did that even happen?
If you work for a living, you spend a huge portion of life chasing these damned units of money (“dollars”), and they keep on losing value. What the fuck.
You go to work and responsibly save some of that paycheck to buy food in the future. Then before you know it food costs twice as much.
Are you pissed off yet? Then start learning about Bitcoin. Maybe I’ll write more on it in the future. Until then, try http://nakamotoinstitute.org.
